Vacancy: Senior Manager - Climate Justice

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty is a bold initiative to spur international cooperation to end new development of fossil fuels, phase out existing production within the agreed climate limit of 1.5°C, and develop plans to support global just transition for workers, communities and countries dependent on fossil fuels. The Treaty works in partnership with Satat Sampada, and other allies and partners across various constituencies and global regions, to spread awareness of this initiative and carry out the campaign. Besides being a Treaty partner, Satat Sampada works with organisations to safeguard the earth’s natural resources and promote environmental solutions in India and beyond.

This is a one-year contract position with the potential for extension and coterminous with the project. We are looking for someone who can start right away.

About the role:

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is relatively new, with a team of global, talented and committed individuals who work dedicatedly towards achieving the initiative’s three pillars: to phase out existing supplies of fossil fuels, stop any new exploration and secure a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Your role will be supporting our engagement with these partner organisations, coordinating outreach to others and deepening our engagement across our key constituencies and regions.

Key Role and Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Global Engagement and Partnership team to build, support, connect and mobilise a diverse global coalition of organisations and individuals calling for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

  • Developing and implementing user journeys for different partner organisations and individuals, supporting them with frequent, clear communication and resources to increase their engagement with the Treaty Initiative.

  • Supporting the development and production of resources for the Treaty Campaign Hub, equipping campaign partners with guides, content, material and case studies to increase their impact.

  • Supporting the team in curation of key campaign moments and mobilisations to build awareness of the Treaty and foster public support and political momentum for phasing out fossil fuels.

  • Engaging with other members of the International Support Team and partners, in producing and distributing content, including emails, video and graphics through email and social media platforms to build a global momentum behind the campaign for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

  • Identifying key lessons to share recommendations with the International Support Team, Campaign Working Group and Steering Committee where relevant. Coordinating and supporting other partners and contractors focussed on partner engagement work as required.

  • Managing and overseeing our partner engagement with key constituencies such as faith, indigenous peoples, youth, human rights and health.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Experience and Attributes:

  • Experience of working in partnership with organisations, managing relationships and a broad understanding of relational dynamics within the climate justice groups and civil society.

  • Ability to manage relationships and coordination with several countries and regions in a rapidly developing landscape with strong time management, planning and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

  • Highly developed time management, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines as part of a remote team.

  • Experience of facilitating meetings and workshops, both in person and online. Ability to work collaboratively with partners to develop project proposals and contribute to various communications products (articles, blogs, op-eds etc.)

  • You should have a high-performance drive, be a self-starter, an initiator and a creative thinker.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • A resilient and flexible team player who is a quick learner and can work well with a globally distributed team across multiple time zones.

  • Demonstrated experience in working on teams across differences, including race, class, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, language fluency, etc.

  • Experience of conducting research and working in content development and production.

  • Strong multi-tasking abilities.

  • Experience of working remotely with a team with a range of online tools including Slack, Google docs, Zoom and content management systems.

Desired qualification and qualities:

  • M.Sc in Environment Sciences / Renewable Energy / Sustainable Development / Climate Science and Policy / or similar such academic programme.

  • A deep passion for climate justice and supporting an equitable transition to a world without coal, oil or gas.

  • Fluency in other languages, besides English, is highly desirable.

  • Campaigning experience.
